On August 19, 2026, Perfect Earth Project presented TickNology with Joshua Ginsberg, president of the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, who shared insight from the institute’s 35-year in-depth study of ticks, and Moses Cucura, entomologist and superintendent for the Suffolk County Department of Public Works, Division of Vector Control, will discussed his work with tick management strategies on the East End, moderated by Perfect Earth Project founder and landscape designer Edwina von Gal. Representatives from Perfect Earth Project, Surfrider, and Peconic Estuary Partnership were there to answer questions and offer science-based advice on how to manage them in our yards without harmful side effects to us, our pets, or pollinators. The most effective way to protect yourself from ticks is to “Spray yourself, check yourself.” As Dr. Ginsberg said, “Conservation, diversity, and being a good steward of the habitat is critical if we want to be healthy.”
